FAQ:  iPad and UNK  

1. How do I get started with my new iPad?
   Before you can use your iPad, you must connect your iPad to your computer (desktop or laptop) and use iTunes to set it up.
   

   • Connect your iPad to your computer. Use the cable included with your iPad to connect the cable to your iPad and the USB port on your computer.
   • Follow the onscreen instructions in iTunes to set up your iPad and sync your music, movies, TV shows, photos, apps and more.

   
   You have two options.

   • iTunes Store account - requires a credit card
   • iTunes App account - does not require a credit card

    
2. Do I need an iTunes account to download free apps or to purchase apps?
   Yes, you need an iTunes account to download both free and purchased apps to your iPad.
   You have two options to set up an iTunes account.
   You can set up an iTunes Store account with a credit card or without.
3. How can I create an iTunes App Store account without a credit card?

4. How do I connect my iPad to UNKSecure wireless?
   1. Start your iPad.
   2. Select Settings > Wi-Fi > From Choose a Network, select UNKSecure.
   3. Enter your username. Your user name is your entire UNK email address. i.e. doej@unk.edu or doej@lopers.unk.edu
   4. Enter your UNK EASI password.  
5. How do I find out if the App I want to purchase qualifies for a volume discount?

6. Who do I contact to purchase an iPad app using UNK funds for my UNK iPad?
   Note: All iPad apps paid with UNK funds must be downloaded to a UNK iPad. UNK will not purchase apps to be downloaded to a personal iPad

7. How do I learn more about my new iPad?

8. How do I play a flash video on my iPad?

   Many of our faculty and students use flash files in Blackboard which has been an issue when using a tablet. We recommend using Puffin Browser. It plays MPEG4 and flash players in full-screen mode. The full-screen player leverages the native video player on your device, and thus provides a much smoother video streaming experience.

   From your iPad click on download Puffin.

10. UNK Voluntary iPad Protection Plan for Students

    To provide end-user protection and peace of mind for UNK students with a UNK iPad, UNK offers the option to enroll into the UNK ITS Voluntary iPad Protection Plan. By enrolling into this plan, you reduce your cost for unexpected damages to your UNK iPad as per your signed UNK iPad Agreement at time of deployment.
    For $15 at each iPad renewal period, you will be covered for damage to your UNK iPad for that period. For example if your iPad is damaged, you only pay a $10 deductible for the first incident.

    • 1st Incident Deductible = $10
    • 2nd Incident Deductible = $25
    • 3rd Incident Deductible = $50
    • 4th Incident is not covered.

    
    Not covered: iPad lost or stolen, or catastrophic damage, abuse, and/or inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications.
    
    How to submit claims?
    If there is an issue with the UNK iPad, the student must bring the iPad to the ITS Help Desk immediately. Upon payment of the appropriate deductible fee listed above, the student will receive a replacement UNK iPad.
