A central file server is available to all faculty and staff for storing large files or backing up files stored locally on your desktop machine. Our central file server looks like another disk drive to your computer, so you can save or copy files to it.
Reasons for using the central server:
Easy method for backing up the files on your desktop machine.
If something happens to your desktop hard drive or if your computer is replaced - your files are still on the central server.
Files stored on the central server are backed up automatically at least once a week. If you lose a file it can be recovered.
Files stored on the central server are available to you in the classroom/another office as well as your office. You can "log in" to the network on any campus networked computer with your username and password and your files will be available.
