Dependent Tuition Remission. (Section 3.7 of the Bylaws of the Board of Regents) (Revised June 1, 2006)

The Employee and Dependent Scholarship program is located on the Firefly website under Employee Self Service. Employees will no longer use their social security number but instead will use their Firefly login and password to access the system. The Firefly website address is http://firefly.nebraska.edu

After logging into Firefly, select ESS then select Scholarship, then Dependent Scholarship from the menu to enter the system.

If an employee has forgotten their password, it can be reset it by using the "Forgotten your password?" feature on the Firefly logon screen.

ESS provides University of Nebraska employees online access to their personal data stored in SAP, the university's administrative computing system. ESS is fast, easy and can be accessed 24 hours a day from any computer connected to the web. ESS is an intuitive one-click menu path that makes it easy to find what you need and make changes when appropriate.

Eligibility: All full-time (1.00 F.T.E.) University employees, and retirees who have met the normal retirement regulations, are eligible to apply.

To be eligible you must be actively employed full-time, prior to the start of classes. If you terminate employment within 30 days of the start of classes, you will be billed for tuition fees.

Employees must be admitted students of the University and must have met all normal academic requirements for the courses taken.

The Employee Scholarship Program is not available to employees on leave of absence without pay or whose anticipated employment period is less than six months.

Limitations: Employee Scholarships are subject to openings in the specific classes the employee intends to enroll in. Timely notice of a reduction or withdrawal of this privilege will be provided to all employees.

The Employee Scholarship Program applies only to academic credit courses being offered at any unit of the University of Nebraska. These courses may be taken for credit or audit.

Normally classes should be taken during non-working hours. Time off for classes taken during normal work hours will be made up (at the department's discretion).

A class may be taken only once. If, however, you dropped the class or withdrew from school through the proper channels, you may re-register for the same class at a later time under the program.

Financial: Employees whose applications have been approved pay all normal admission and matriculation fees with the exception of UPFF fees. Employees shall also pay all usual course costs such as books and supplies.

The Employee Scholarship Program shall allow tuition equal to the University's resident-tuition charge per semester credit hour. The program is limited to fifteen (15) credit hours in any 12-month period (September-August) and is restricted to normally no more than six (6 credit hours per semester).

Employees eligible for scholarship plans through other governmental programs are expected to use these programs prior to applying for the University Employee Scholarship Program. If the employee's costs are not entirely covered by the other governmental programs, the University Employee Scholarship Program shall allow for the difference up to the maximum established in the policy.

The electronic form is routed to the Finance Office, Financial Aid and Human Resources for approval and processing.

If you choose to remain on the Kearney State College Program for your dependents, you must use a paper Employee Scholarship Form available in Human Resources
