Dependent Tuition Remission. (Section 3.7 of the Bylaws of the Board of Regents) (Revised June 1, 2006)

The Employee and Dependent Scholarship program is located on the Firefly website under Employee Self Service. Employees will no longer use their social security number but instead will use their Firefly login and password to access the system. The Firefly website address is http://firefly.nebraska.edu

After logging into Firefly, select ESS then select Scholarship, then Dependent Scholarship from the menu to enter the system.

If an employee has forgotten their password, it can be reset it by using the "Forgotten your password?" feature on the Firefly logon screen.

ESS provides University of Nebraska employees online access to their personal data stored in SAP, the university's administrative computing system. ESS is fast, easy and can be accessed 24 hours a day from any computer connected to the web. ESS is an intuitive one-click menu path that makes it easy to find what you need and make changes when appropriate.

Eligibility: All University of Nebraska employees who meet employee scholarship eligibility conditions may elect to allocate all or part of their employee scholarship benefit to their spouse or to their dependent children.

To be eligible you must be actively employed full-time, prior to the start of classes. If you terminate employment within 30 days of the start of classes, you will be billed for tuition fees

Retirees must have been full-time prior to retirement (excluding Retirement Options exercised prior to retiring) and meet normal retirement requirements of age 55 with 10 years of service or age 65.

Spouse is defined as an employee's husband or wife, as recognized under the laws of the State of Nebraska. Including the husband or wife of a deceased employee, but not a divorced spouse.

Dependent Children is defined as an employee's natural born or legally adopted child or stepchild who is living in the employee's home and is chiefly dependent on the employee for support (claimed as a dependent) or foster child the employee is raising as their own, lives in the employee's home, chiefly dependent upon the employee for support, and for whom the employee has taken full parental responsibility and control. Including the dependent children of a deceased employee. Any married child or any child who has attained the age of 24 is not eligible.

The Dependent Scholarship Program is only available to spouses and dependent children who are admitted students of a University of Nebraska campus and who have met all normal academic requirements for the course(s) taken. Full-time student enrollment status is required for dependent child eligibility, but not dependent spouse. Dependent children, who want to use the scholarship program for summer, must have been a full-time University of Nebraska student during the spring semester in order to be eligible.

Limitations: The granting of the Dependent Scholarship Program is subject to openings in the specific classes in which the dependent(s) intend to enroll.

Dependent Scholarship Program will be allowed for undergraduate academic credit courses at any campus of the University of Nebraska. These courses may be taken for credit or audit.

The Dependent Scholarship Program shall allow tuition equal to the University's resident-tuition-charge per semester credit hour at the campus of attendance, subject to the limitations listed below.

Dependents whose applications have been approved pay all normal admission and matriculation fees including UPFF fees and all usual course-related costs such as books and supplies.

The maximum total number of credit hours that may be transferred by an employee to one or more dependents will be the equivalent of fifteen (15) semester credit hours in any academic (fall, spring and summer) year and is restricted to no more than nine (9) credit hours per semester.

Dependents eligible for scholarship plans through other programs are expected to avail themselves of these programs prior to applying for the University of Nebraska Dependent Tuition Scholarship Program. If the dependent's costs are not entirely covered by other programs, the University of Nebraska Dependent Scholarship Program shall allow for the difference up to the maximum established herein.

Employees will be billed for their dependent tuition if they resign from University employment and the effective date of resignation occurs during the first thirty (30) days after classes have commenced.

The electronic form is routed to the Finance Office, Financial Aid and Human Resources for approval and processing.

Grandfathered employees who choose to remain on the Kearney State College Program for your dependents, you must use a paper Employee Scholarship Form available in Human Resources
