Hours of Operation and Contact Information:
Counseling Care is open Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm. Our
office number is 308-865-8248 and we are located in the Memorial Student
Affairs Building office 144. An after-hour emergency counselor is available to
students at the same number.
How do I schedule an appointment?
The best way to make an appointment is to call and schedule
at 308-865-8248 between the hours of 8am-5pm Monday-Friday. Please be prepared
that the office assistant will ask you some questions about the reason for the
visit. There is some paperwork involved before your first session, so please
come early for your first session or come get the paperwork before your
appointment.
How long do appointments last and how often will I go?
Appointments range from 45-50 minutes. You and the counselor
will decide on a course of treatment and the frequency of appointments, such as
once per week or every other week depending on your needs. We offer brief
counseling and some issues resolve themselves quickly while others make take a
few more weeks.
Can I be seen if I have an emergency?
We will make our best effort to see you as soon as possible.
However, since we are a clinic that schedules clients in advance you may not
been seen immediately.
Do you offer Drug and Alcohol Services?
We offer a court approved CHOICES alcohol education class
once a month. We also provide substance abuse evaluations and court mandated
sessions. Please note that these services are at an additional cost.
How do I know if I need counseling?
Life can get complicated at times and sometimes we can work
through those things on our own or with support from family and friends.
Sometimes, issues can feel too private, complicated, or overwhelming to share
with someone we know. Talking with a mental health therapist can provide a
safe, neutral, and confidential setting to help you explore your concerns and
offer support as you find the path that works best for you.
Will my information be kept confidential?
Your counseling information is kept in the Counseling and
Health Care clinic and is not a part of your academic record. Confidentiality
is a high priority for the counseling center. There are some limits to
confidentiality. For instance, if you are an imminent danger to yourself/others
or elder and child abuse is disclosed, the mental health practitioner will need
to act in a way to keep you safe or others safe. You may choose to give written
permission giving the mental health practitioner permission to share
information.
What should I do if I am concerned about a friend?
If you are concerned about a friend please let them know
about our services. The first step in getting help is to reach out. You are
more than welcome to walk over with that friend and show your support. We are
an appointment only clinic, but will do our best to see a student in crisis as
soon as we can. If you want to speak with a therapist for consultation, please
call our office number and a counselor will call you back when they are
available.
