Heritage and Legacy

The Frank House is the historic home on the campus of the University of Nebraska at Kearney.  The home's museum status supports the University goals for outreach and engagement.  The museum's mission is to preserve and share the historic and aesthetic values of the Frank House connecting past, present and future generations.

Hours, Admission and Reservations
"Walk-in" Welcome Hours:  M-F 2-5, Sa 1-5; closed student breaks and holidays including March 13-20 for Spring Break.
Walk-in admission is free and donations very appreciated!
Groups of eight or more by reservation for tours, receptions and other special events

February 13, Life and Works of Louis C. Tiffany

Paula Nesiba presents a Frank Talk about Louis Comfort Tiffany’s Life from 1848 –1933.  Tiffany was an American artist and designer who worked in the decorative arts and is best known for his work in stained glass.  You will learn about Tiffany’s windows, lamps, jewelry, style and themes… and his window in the Frank House, of course.

Feb 20, Woody Guthrie: Re-envisioning 1930’s

Mike Adams and Kathryn Benzel present a parlor performance sponsored in part by the Nebraska Humanities Council.  Mike Adams's Americana style combines folk and country with jazz and blues in a dynamic acoustic sound. Adams's song-stories describe the fragile beauty of the disappearing Plains, the integrity of hard work and the pleasure of working together. Adams played traditional American music in a collaborative performance, "Prayers for the People: Carl Sandburg's Poetry and Songs," with Kathryn Benzel and Charles Peek at the Red Cloud Opera House, the Theatre of the American West in Republican City and the Merryman Performing Arts Center in Kearney.

Feb 27, African American History Connections to the Frank House

Frank Talks by UNK students highlight the Frank men in the abolitionist movement and Eliza Galloway’s life journey from slave to Kearney caterer.

March 6, Tiffany for Kids

This workshop is for children aged 5-10 years of age and is led by UNK students.  Children will learn about the Tiffany window in the Frank House while creating edible and displayable art.  Children must be accompanied by adults.  The workshop is limited to the first 15 registered by March 3.  Call 308-865-8284 or email sullivankw@unk.edu to register.

March 27, Buildings of George William Frank

Bobbie McKenzie and Lola Hoagstrom present this Frank Talk about the Kearney architectural structures designed in the 1800’s by the architect of the Frank House. You’ll be surprised to see how many can be seen around town today!

April 3, Victorian Easter Egg Hunt

Children aged 3-9 and accompanied by an adult, are invited to celebrate the coming of spring with traditional egg decorating and an Easter egg hunt. The Junior Friends of the Frank House are leading and sponsoring the event.  The fun is limited to the first 20 to register by March 30.  Call 308-865-8284 or email sullivankw@unk.edu to register.

May 1, Geography of American Antiques

 Dr. Jason Combs, a certified appraiser and an assistant professor of geography at UNK , shares his knowledge of America’s material culture. Dr. Combs owns Burr Oak Antiques and Appraisals and has published three articles about antiques/material diffusion in "Material Culture." The articles are titled "The Antiques Trade: The Diffusion of America's Cultural Patrimony," "The Internet's Impact on the Antiques Trade" and "Trading America's Past on eBay: The Case Study of Northwood Carnival Glass and Roseville Pottery."
