Athletic Scholarships

ARMAGOST FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP
IN MEMORY OF ROB ARMAGOST
Established by a gift of the Armagost Family in memory of Rob Armagost, this scholarship shall be awarded to full-time undergraduate students in the Department of Industrial Technology. Recipients shall have junior or senior class standing.  Preference will be given to Industrial Technology majors who participate in a varsity intercollegiate athletic program sponsored by UNK. 

MIKE BAKER
This scholarship shall be awarded to a full-time student participating in baseball.  The recipient shall be selected by the Athletic Director in consultation with the baseball coach. 

BOARS INTERNATIONAL
Established to assist one or more full-time undergraduate students enrolled at UNK. Selection criteria include being active in varsity athletics at UNK, a resident of Nebraska, of sophomore, junior, or senior status, and a minimum 2.0 GPA.  Financial need will not be a criteria.  Recipients shall be selected by the UNK Scholarship Committee. 

ALVIN BROWN MEMORIAL
Established by friends and family of Alvin Brown, this scholarship shall be awarded to a full-time undergraduate student.  The recipient must be a member of the varsity football or men's basketball program, and have graduated from a Nebraska high school.  Selection shall be made by the Athletic Director, Football and Men's Basketball Coach. 

BUSH FAMILY ATHLETIC
Recipients shall participate in a varsity athletic program at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.  First preference shall be given to basketball players.  The recipient shall be a sophomore, junior, or senior with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0.  Recipients shall be graduates of a Nebraska High School. 

DON CHILDS MEMORIAL
Established by the friends and family of Don Childs, to provide financial assistance to two sophomore, junior, or senior track athletes. Selection shall be based upon the athletes' ability in distance running, as well as leadership qualities, and general good character. Recipients shall be selected by the track coaches. 

F. KEITH COTTRELL
Established by the friends and family of F. Keith Cottrell, who was a Kearney State College graduate and a member of the Athletic Associates.  This scholarship shall be awarded to a UNK athlete.  Selection shall be based upon financial need.  Recipients shall be selected by the Athletic Director in consultation with coaches. 

KENT ESTES MEMORIAL FOR UNK ATHLETICS                                               This scholarship shall be awarded to regularly enrolled undergraduate students who are members of any varsity sport.  Candidates shall be members of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

FIRST FEDERAL LINCOLN 
Awarded by the Athletic Department to one female athlete and one male athlete ($500 each).  The recipients shall be entering her/his final year and be a resident of Nebraska. These students shall demonstrate financial need and use the funds for direct educational expense.  Recipients shall be selected by the Athletic Director in consultation with coaches.

CHARLIE FOSTER MEN'S AND
WOMEN'S TRACK SCHOLARSHIP 
Established by Charlie Foster to assist student athletes participating in track.  Selection shall be made by the track coaches. 

TOM FOX MEMORIAL GOLF
Established to provide financial assistance to students at UNK.  Selection criteria include being a member of the UNK Golf team, a minimum 2.5 GPA, and past academic achievement and demonstration of potential for future academic and professional accomplishments.  Although financial need may be considered, it should not be the determining factor.  Recipients shall be selected by the golf coach in consultation with the Athletic Director. 

GOOD SAMARITAN HOSPITAL
This scholarship shall be awarded to 3 or more undergraduate students enrolled at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.  Candidates shall be participating in a varsity sport.  Preference shall be given to candidates who have expresses a desire to pursue a health related career after graduation.

DUDLEY W. GRAHAM MEMORIAL
Established by Gary D. Graham, M.D. in memory of his father, Dudley Graham, who was an athlete at Kearney State College and was actively involved in the athletic program. This scholarship shall be awarded alternately between athletes participating in football and men's basketball.  Recipients shall be selected by the Athletic Director in consultation with the respective coach. 

LORRAINE LUNGRIN MEMORIAL VOLLEYBALL
Established to commemorate the life of Lorraine Lungrin, this scholarship shall be awarded to a member of the UNK Volleyball Team. The recipient shall be selected by the UNK Scholarship Committee in consultation with the UNK Head Volleyball coach.

DULWORTH "DODE" GRAHAM ATHLETIC Established to provide support for students of UNK.  Recipients shall meet the academic standards of the University to be eligible. Financial need may be considered, but will not be the determining factor.  Recipients shall be selected by the UNK Scholarship Committee from applicants recommended by the Athletic Director.

GARY G. JOHNSON MEMORIAL
Established by the family of Gary Johnson to provide financial assistance to a full-time UNK student athlete from Nebraska.  The recipient shall be a sophomore, junior, or senior and should be participating in football.  Recipients shall be selected by the football coach in consultation with the Athletic Director. 

LETTERPERSON ATHLETIC
This scholarship, established by Dick Beechner, shall be awarded to a student athlete.  The recipient shall be selected by the Athletic Director in consultation with coaches.

LOPER LEGACY
This scholarship shall be awarded to regularly enrolled undergraduates who are members of the UNK football team.  Recipients shall be determined by the head football coach. 

MATTSON FAMILY 
The recipient must be a member of the Men's or Women's Varsity Golf program.  Selection shall be made jointly by the Golf Coach and the Director of Athletics. 

WAYNE R. & VIRGINIA E. L. 
McKINNEY FAMILY 
Established to help support students enrolled at UNK.  Two scholarships shall be awarded each year, one to a Business major, and one to an athlete in any field of study.  Selection criteria include a minimum 3.0 GPA, with first consideration given to students from Buffalo County and then to students from central Nebraska.  Recipients shall be selected by the UNK Scholarship Committee. 

ROD PETERSON MEMORIAL
Established by the friends and family of Rodney Peterson, this scholarship shall be awarded to a varsity baseball athlete.  Recipients shall be selected by the baseball coach. 

FRANCIS L. RICHARDS
This scholarship shall be awarded to a full-time, undergraduate, track athlete.  The recipient shall be selected by the track coach.

COSMOPOLITAN CLUB 
TRACK SCHOLARSHIP 
Established by Dr. Francis L. Richards and Donald K. Briggs, this scholarship shall be awarded to a male or female member of the varsity track program.  Recipients shall have sophomore, junior, or senior class standing, have a minimum 2.5 GPA, and have graduated from a Nebraska high school.  Financial need shall be a criteria but not the determining factor. Recipients shall be selected by the UNK Scholarship Committee upon recommendation from the Men's and Women's Track coaches. 

DR. & MRS. B. M. STEVENSON
ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP 

Established to help support a student athlete at UNK.  Recipients shall be nominated by the Athletic Director and selected by the UNK Scholarship Committee. 

UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA 
AT KEARNEY TENNIS SCHOLARSHIP 
This scholarship, established by the Kearney Tennis Association, shall be awarded to male and female students who are members of the UNK Tennis Team.  Recipients may have any class standing and must have a minimum 2.0 GPA.  The UNK Scholarship Committee shall select the recipients upon recommendations from the tennis coach. 

UPPER DECK
This scholarship shall be awarded to regularly enrolled undergraduate students at UNK who are members of the baseball team.  Recipients shall be selected by the baseball coach in consultation with the Athletic Director.

BERT WALLACE MEMORIAL
Established to help support students in athletics, with track to be given preference. Recipients should have a minimum 3.0 GPA, or if a freshman, be in the top 20% of their high school graduating class.  Recipients shall be selected by the UNK Scholarship Committee from applicants recommended by the Athletic Director. 

AL AND VERLENE ZIKMUND ATHLETIC
Established to help support students enrolled at UNK.  Recipients shall have a student classification of sophomore or above and be a member of the varsity football team.  Recipients shall be selected by the football coaches and athletic director of UNK.  The recipient shall be academically eligible and remain so to participate in athletics and be moving toward graduating with a degree from UNK
