Since you have completed the FAFSA in prior years, you and your parents ( if you are a dependent student as defined on the FAFSA ) should already have a U.S. Department of Education PIN. This PIN will allow you to complete and sign the FAFSA entirely electronically. If you have forgotten and or lost your PIN, you can retrieve or establish a new one at www.pin.ed.gov. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid by visiting www.fafsa.ed.gov. Because you have completed a FAFSA in the past you should be able to complete a Renewal FAFSA. This means that some of the stable data, like SSNs, Names, Addresses, etc., which is less likely to be different from year to year, will already be filled in on the FAFSA form. Do review the information and correct anything that needs to be updated. When completing the income and taxes portion of the FAFSA, be sure to use the FAFSA's IRS Data Retrieval Tool to transfer your 2012 federal income tax information directly from the IRS into the FAFSA. Doing so will help increase FAFSA accuracy and may speed up processing time. You will also be asked to indicate the schools to which you would like your FAFSA information sent. You will need to enter UNK's school code (002551) in order to give UNK access to your information. Use your Department of Education PIN number to sign the FAFSA electronically. Remember, the dependent student and the parent who are submitting information each need separate PIN numbers to electronically sign the FAFSA. Some applications for federal student aid are selected for a process called verification. If your FAFSA is selected for verification, we are required by the Department of Education to collect additional documentation to make sure the FAFSA information is accurate. Those persons whose FAFSA applications are selected for verification will be notified by email at the email address you provided on your application for admission. It is important that you watch your email and respond to any requests for information right away. If you are selected for verification, there is a link on this website under the "Forms" heading that discusses the items needed for this review. Back to Financial Aid home page
