Transfer Student Scholarships

The application for admission also serves as the application for transfer student scholarships. To be considered for transfer scholarships (with the exception of the Non-Resident Scholarship) for the 2019-20 academic year, students must be admitted by April 1, 2019, and have a cumulative transfer GPA from all prior institutions attended of 3.0 or above. Please read on to learn more about transfer student scholarship opportunities at UNK.

Transfer Regents Scholarship: This scholarship, which applies to both fall and spring term, pays full tuition for up to 90 credit hours or until graduation with first bachelor’s degree, whichever comes first. Four Transfer Regents Scholarships are awarded annually to transfer students from Nebraska community colleges. Eligible students must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5, and a minimum of 45 completed hours from their community college. Renewal requires completion of 24 credit hours each academic year and a cumulative UNK GPA of 3.25 or better. Selection will be based on review of the student’s transcripts. Transfer Student Scholarship: This scholarship is a tuition waiver of up to $2000 annually for two years (four semesters- fall and spring of each academic year). This scholarship can be awarded to a transfer student from any institution who has been admitted by April 1 with a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or better. Selection is based on review of the student’s transcripts. Renewal requires completion of 24 credit hours each academic year and a cumulative UNK GPA of 3.0 or better. Non-Resident Scholarship: This scholarship pays the difference between resident and non-resident tuition for eligible students. Admitted transfer students with a cumulative transfer GPA from all prior institutions of 3.0 or better are eligible for this scholarship. Students transferring to UNK for the 2019-20 academic year must be admitted by August 1, 2019. Students transferring to UNK for the Spring 2020 semester must be admitted by December 1, 2019. The scholarship applies to each fall and spring term, is renewable for up to four semesters or until graduation, and requires the completion of 24 credit hours each year with a minimum cumulative UNK GPA of 3.0. 

Legacy Scholarship: This scholarship pays the difference between resident and non-resident tuition for non-resident students whose parent or parents graduated from one of the University of Nebraska campuses. To qualify, students must be admitted to UNK by August 1, 2019 with a 3.0 GPA and 58 transfer credits. This scholarship is renewable for up to 4 semesters with a 3.0 UNK GPA. 

Loper Heritage Scholarship: This scholarship pays the difference between resident and non-resident tuition for non-resident students whose parent or parents graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney/Kearney State College. To qualify, a student must be admitted for the fall semester by August 1, 2019 or by December 1, 2019 for the spring semester. Admitted students are initially evaluated for eligibility for the Nebraska Legacy Scholarship and the Colorado/Kansas Advantage Scholarship. The Loper Heritage Scholarship is awarded if the student does not meet the academic criteria for either of these scholarships. Students must be in good academic standing and complete 24 credit hours each academic year to renew for the upcoming year for a total of 8 semesters. 

Advantage Scholarship: The Advantage Scholarship pays the difference between resident and non-resident tuition for admitted students from Colorado or Kansas. Students must be admitted by August 1, 2019 for the fall semester or December 1, 2019 for the spring semester and indicate a permanent home address on their application for admission from Colorado or Kansas. This scholarship is renewable for up to 8 semesters as long as students remain in good academic standing.

UNK Teachers Scholars Academy: This program for aspiring teachers provides funding for 120 credit hours of tuition and $8000 annually for fees, room, meals and other education expenses.  In addition to scholarship support, recipients receive supplemental mentoring through the College of Education. In order to apply a transfer student must have sophomore standing or higher when entering UNK and a cumulative college GPA (from all transfer institutions) of 3.25 or higher. The application is currently closed. 

Pepsi Phi Theta Kappa Student Scholarship: This scholarship is for $2000 annually for two years (four semesters -fall and spring of each academic year). New or incoming undergraduate transfer students who are fully admitted by April 1, have a minimum transfer grade point average of 3.0, who transfer from a Nebraska community college, and who are members of Phi Theta Kappa honorary are eligible. Students must also fill out the online Pepsi Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship application by April 1. Students selected for this scholarship must be full-time students demonstrating a commitment to service-learning, and will be required to continue that commitment for renewal of this scholarship while attending UNK. Davis-Chambers Transfer Scholarship: The Davis-Chambers Transfer Scholarship recognizes academically talented students from diverse backgrounds who may find it difficult to afford higher education. First consideration for this scholarship is given to current Davis-Chambers Scholars at Nebraska Community Colleges. The typical award is $2000. Students must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for 2019-20 to be considered for this scholarship. Additionally, students must have at least a 3.25 GPA and have completed 45 community college credit hours at the time of submission. 

Application deadline is April 1, 2019. The application is currently closed. 

Maestros del Futuro: Bilingual Educators Scholarship: The Maestros Scholarship provides a scholarship to pay for room costs at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.  The scholarship is capped at the base room rate, which is the room rate charged for residents of Men's Hall.  It is awarded to students pursuing classroom teaching credentials at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. The application is currently closed. 

Requirements:

  • Applicants must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid by March 1st in order to establish eligibility as U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents of the United States.
  • Applicants must be fluent in Spanish, both speaking and writing, and demonstrate a genuine commitment to becoming a teacher.
  • An ACT score of 22 or higher and a minimum GPA of 3.0 are required.
  • The scholarship is granted for up to four years if all conditions of contract are met beginning with the fall 2019 semester.
  • Applicants must be admitted to UNK by March 1st.

Only completed applications will be processed.  A completed application includes:

  • Application form
  • Two completed reference forms
  • Essay question response (600 words or less)
  • A copy of all high school and college transcripts
  • A resume listing school involvement, community service and honors or awards.

Multicultural Community Service Scholarship: This scholarship is designed to provide students an opportunity to serve UNK through the Office of Student Diversity and Inclusion whose goal is to promote diversity.  Recipients of this scholarship will receive a full tuition waiver for up to 15 credit hours per semester beginning with the fall semester.  This scholarship is for eight semesters and two summers if all conditions of contract are met. Recipients will be selected primarily on a demonstrated commitment to diversity/multiculturalism by leadership and participation in school and community activities. Applicants must complete a UNK Admissions Application and be admitted by March 1, 2019. The application is currently closed.

  • A copy of all high school and college transcripts
  • A resume listing school involvement, community service and honors or awards.

New Industrial Distribution Major Scholarship: Students who have declared Industrial Distribution as their major and have completed one semester in the program are welcome to apply for this scholarship.  In order to qualify, the applicant must have completed at least two classes required for the ID major, carry a 3.0 GPA in the Industrial Distribution Comprehensive Core, and be in their second semester in the program. The application is currently closed. 

New Industrial Distribution Minor Scholarship: Students who have declared Industrial Distribution as their minor and have completed one semester in the program are welcome to apply for this scholarship.  In order to qualify, the applicant must have completed at least two classes required for the minor, carry a 3.0 GPA in the Industrial Distribution Comprehensive Core, and be in their second semester in the program. The application is currently closed.
