UNK will begin construction of the new Wellness Center
during spring 2013 semester. The facility is intended to be open for the
fall 2014 semester.
The UNK Wellness Center will include facilities for fitness
activities for students, faculty and staff, employee health and wellness,
community outreach, and public health research. The Wellness Center will
consist of a new addition to the Cushing Coliseum of approximately 19,000 gross
square feet, half dedicated to student recreation and half to the Human
Performance Laboratory (HPL); and renovation of approximately 4,000 net square
feet of student recreation and classroom space within Cushing Coliseum.
Construction fencing will be installed during spring
break. This fencing will close Lot 9, the small lot to the east of
Cushing and change traffic patterns. During construction, barriers will
be installed to protect pedestrian traffic at this location. Traffic routing
into and out of Lot 10 (between Cushing and Fine Arts) will be limited to one
way entry only. Vehicles will enter through Lot 9 on the east side
of Cushing and exit by the drive north of the Fine Arts building in the
southeast corner of the parking lot.
Parking
spaces near Cushing will be lost due to this construction. New parking
spaces will be constructed on campus prior to the start of the fall semester.
