The University of Nebraska at Kearney encourages the upward mobility of employees to positions for which they are qualified and which meet their career interests and objectives. Vacant positions are advertised through campus e-mails and posted on select bulletin boards.
Successful upward mobility for employees may be accomplished through a promotion within the department or by transfer and promotion within another department. Consequently, supervisors, directors, deans, vice chancellors and the chancellor are expected to consider employees for promotion within their own departments or divisions and to allow them opportunities to seek transfers to other departments or divisions. An atmosphere conducive to exploring promotion or transfer must be maintained.
Regular employees who have successfully completed the probationary period of six months in their current position (if applicable) with the University of Nebraska at Kearney are eligible for promotion or transfer. Employees on temporary appointments, student employees and employees with less than six months of service in their current position are normally not eligible for promotion or transfer. Employees eligible for promotion must meet the minimum qualifications of the position and have satisfactory performance evaluations.
Internal promotions or transfers are encouraged and may be effected with an internal posting of the position vacancy as long as underutilization of minorities and women does not exist within the hiring department as verified by the Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Office.
