Chancellor's Statement

The University of Nebraska at Kearney is committed to nondiscrimination and affirmative action in employment. The University's most fundamental employment goal is to recruit and retain a high-quality workforce. It achieves that goal by making employment decisions solely on the basis of job qualifications and performance and by taking affirmative steps to ensure fair treatment of all candidates and employees on the basis of those criteria.

Individual employees may join and leave our workforce for many reasons, not all of which are within the University's ability to control or influence. The University of Nebraska at Kearney is committed, however, to eliminating any vestiges of prohibited discrimination in its own policies and practices that may unfairly limit the employment prospects of qualified individuals.

The University is committed to affirmative actions that extend fair employment guarantees to all segments of relevant labor markets.  The UNK Affirmative Action Plan is an important tool in achieving that goal.  We will monitor the plan annually to evaluate our progress.  The University requires and expects the cooperation of all employees in implementing our employment policies and our Affirmative Action Plan.

I have appointed Cheryl Bressington as the University of Nebraska at Kearney's Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Director. The AA/EO Director has primary responsibility to monitor our equal employment opportunity practices and to administer the Affirmative Action Plan.  Procedures have been established to investigate and resolve complaints concerning prohibited discrimination. Questions regarding our policies, procedures or this Plan may be addressed to the AA/EO Director.
