The UNK Network
With your connection to the University of Nebraska at Kearney Network, you will be able to access all of the electronic resources that we provide, including our Library databases.
What do I need to use the network?
You will need to have a computer that meets the minimum computer specifications to connect to the network.
An RJ45 male/male Ethernet cable to connect your computer to the wall jack can be purchased at UNK Technology Store in Otto Olsen 115. You will also need to buy a surge protector for your computer. Surge protectors can be purchased at any store that sells computer supplies or from UNK Technology Store.
Can I Get an E-mail Account?
Every student is given a LoperMail Account when they register for classes. For more information on your LoperMail account click here.
Can I put up my own web page?
Every student at UNK can store a personal web page. Hosting Your Web Page explains the steps that are necessary to receive authorization.
I don't have a printer. Is there anywhere I can print my documents?
Printers are available for student use in all of the computer labs on campus.
How do I get help?
If you need help using the network from your computer in the residence hall, Information Technology Services Helpdesk at 865-8363.
How about a printer?
If you wish to purchase a printer for your room, we recommend a small inkjet printer, such as those from Hewlett-Packard or Dell. Printers can be purchased from UNK Technology Store located in Otto Olsen 115.
Software
Software is available for purchase through the UNK Technology Store at educational pricing, including Microsoft, Adobe and more. Check out the special pricing for students on Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suites.
Other Operating Systems
You are welcome to run other operating systems on your computer, such as LINUX, but we currently only provide support for Windows XP/Vista/7 and Mac OS. Please make sure you read our policies if you choose to run another operating system.
