Save Options in Office 2007

Q: I’ve upgraded to Office 2007. How can I ensure that others will be able open the files I create?

A: You can manually change your default Save options to always save to the older file formats. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Open Word, Excel, or PowerPoint 2007, and click the Microsoft Office Button in the upper left-hand corner of the ribbon.

  2. Click the Options button in the lower-right section of the pane.

  3. Click the Save option.

  4. In the Save file in this format drop-down field, select the 97-2003 Document option.

Note that you must do this separately for each Office 2007 application.

Q:I have not upgraded to Office 2007. What do I do if I receive an Office 2007 document in one of the new formats?

A: To open, edit, and save Office 2007 documents, you will first need to install the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats.
