1. Organizations and Activities: Psi Chi, Psychology Club
In the Psychology Department, there are two student organizations which typically function together:
Psychology Club is an organization open to any student with a major, minor, or interest in psychology. Its purpose is to advance the science of psychology and to encourage , stimulate and maintain scholarship of the individual members in all fields, particularly in psychology. Dues are currently $10.00 per year.

Psi Chi is the National Honor Society in Psychology, founded in 1929 for the purpose of encouraging, stimulating, and maintaining excellence in scholarship and advancing the science of Psychology. The Chapter at the University of Nebraska at Kearney was established on April 27, 1973. Students are elected to Psi Chi based on their academic achievements.
To be eligible for election to Psi Chi, students must have:
- a minimum grade point average of 3.0 overall and 3.25 in psychology
- have completed at least 9 semester hours in psychology
- and be at least a sophomore (completed 36 credit hours).
- Elections occur once a year, typically in March. Initiation into Psi Chi is held during the annual banquet in April. There is a one-time, life-time registration fee of $45.00.
Psi Chi/Psychology Club holds regular meetings in which students are able to explore more about the field of psychology. In the past, psychology club has hosted various speakers of local and national prominence.
Psychology Club also holds various social events such as the annual faculty-student picnic and psych week.
2. Special Events During the Academic Year
Throughout the year, the Psychology Department sponsors or participates in a number of events designed to promote the understanding of psychology. Most events are advertised well in advance through announcements in class and/or notices on the bulletin boards and in the display cases on the third floor of Copeland Hall.
a. Career Day. This is a semester event in which three or four professionals in the field visit our campus to talk about their areas of expertise and their work. The professional panel is open to the entire campus and psychology majors are encouraged to attend. Students are also welcome to attend the reception for the speakers hosted by Psi Chi/Psychology Club.
b. Psychology Week. This is a week-long event, sponsored by Psi Chi/Psychology Club and the Psychology Department, held in the Spring which includes the annual Hair to Dye For, Psych Feud game between faculty and students, barbeque/movie night, and the Annual Psi Chi/ Psychology Club Banquet.
c. Spring Graduate School Visit.The Psychology Club advisor takes students on an overnight trip to one or two graduate schools. This trip combines fun with the exploration of graduate school opportunities. Students interact with graduate students and faculty to improve their understanding of the graduate school application process and graduate school life.
d. Community Service Projects.
