Peter Longo joined the department in 1988. His teaching interests include Public Law and American Government.
Professor Longo is co-author of a book on the Nebraska Constitution and co-editor of a book on water policy on the Great Plains. He has published articles in Environmental Law,Natural Resources Journal,Public Land Law Review,Great Plains Quarterly,Social Justice Review,The Forum of the Association for Arid Land Studies, and Creighton Law Review, as well as book chapters on constitutional and environmental issues. His current research interests revolve around the legal, political, social, and ethical implications of the Human Genome Project. Dr. Longo has also been awarded a dozen research grants from such institutions as the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Science Foundation, the Ford Library Foundation, and the Government of Canada. He is a Fellow at the Center for Great Plains Studies, and he has been a visiting scholar at the University of Manitoba in the summers of 1993 and 1994.
In May 1999, Dr. Longo was named the University of Nebraska at Kearney's Leland Holdt/Security Mutual Life Distinguished Professor for his sustained excellence in teaching, research, and service to the university and community.
