The Political Science faculty believe that understanding politics and government is essential to democratic citizenship and effective public service. It also helps students think critically and be inquisitive in light of the abundance of ideas, philosophies, and cultures of the world. Studying Political Science aids in the development of competence in the subject matter, but also contributes to the development of critical reasoning and analytical skills and effective oral and written communication.

Thus, the Department of Political Science is committed to high quality, liberal arts education that provides mastery in the field of study, prepares students for graduate study in Political Science, International Relations, Business, and Law, and equips students with the communication, analytical, and critical skills necessary for successful careers in a variety of fields.

The Political Science Department takes seriously its commitment to quality student outcomes.  As such, it regularly assesses and tracks students' experiences in college and after graduation.  For more information on Assessment at UNK, follow this link: UNK Assessment.
