Suggested Class Schedule For Wildlife Majors

Completing for certification will meet the requirements for a B.S. degree in Biology with Wildlife Emphasis and the educational requirements for certification as a Certified Wildlife Biologist.

Note that this schedule does not include Math 90, 101, or 102; Chem 145; nor Biol 103, or 109. Basically, these would be considered deficiency courses for a student planning any science major. A college freshman wanting to major in any science should have properly prepared in high school with at least: 3 years of math, and 1 year each of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, and at least 1 semester of typing. Freshman lacking that background may still major in science, but they may have to take some deficiency courses. They can still graduate in 4 years, but each deficiency hour taken will be 1 less elective hour available.

Note that a minimum GPA of 2.5 is required for all courses counting towards the Wildlife Major (this includes all supporting courses as well as Biology), and an overall GPA of 2.0 in order to graduate. Also, UNK requires 6 hours of Cultural Diversity (CD) and 12 hours of Writing Intensive (WI) course work.

There are 27 elective hours available. Any course that gives college credit can be used here. Use these hours to specialize in an area outside wildlife biology that will set you apart from others who will be applying for the same jobs for which you apply. This could include areas such as chemistry, computer science, flight training, geography, and journalism. Some recommended courses include: Geographic Information Systems (Geog 315), Introduction to Flight (Itec 171), Map Investigation (Geog 300), Meteorology (Geog 209GS), Photojournalism (JMC 220), Physical Geology (Geog 207GS), Scuba (PE 210), Video Production (JMC 265), Water Resources (Geog 400), and Website Design (JMC 300).
