Pi Nu Officers 2012- 2013

President: Sally Hale
Hello. My name is Sally Hale and I am honored to be acting
as President for Phi Alpha Theta during my senior year. My major is History
Social Science Comprehensive with a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies. I am a
non-traditional student, and my college experience at UNK has been ineffably
rewarding to me and my family. This is my second year as a work study student
at the UNK Frank House. Community awareness and involvement are invaluable
contributions that I hope to emphasize during my service in PAT. In my spare
time I enjoy being with my family, reading, entertaining in my home, and doing
yoga. I look forward to meeting new and old members and learning from any
fellow History buffs.
Vice-President: David Penn
Hello to everyone. My name is David
C. Penn. I am a graduate of Rochester College where I received a Bachelor of
Arts in Religious Education. I am also a graduate of City University and St.
Xavier University where I received a Master of Education (Curriculum &
Instruction) and a Master of Arts (Educational Administration &
Supervision) respectively. Recently I received a Graduate Certificate in
History from UNK and in the month of May 2012, I matriculated from Abilene
Christian University where I completed a School Superintendency program. I
am in the process of completing an Education Specialist (Ed.S) program at the
University of Missouri (Educational Administration) in concert with a Master of
Arts degree in History from UNK. Professionally speaking, I serve as the Senior
Pastor of a church located in the South suburbs of Chicago and as a public
Middle School Administrator. As you can readily see my time is well spent in
the domains of pastoral responsibilities and school leadership. I enjoy playing
chess, listening to contemporary jazz music, and studying theology and
Afrocentricity. I have been blessed to serve as a mentor for several
professional basketball players including Will Bynum (Detroit Pistons), Tony
Allen (Memphis Grizzlies), and Sherron Collins, formerly of the University of
Kansas and who is now playing overseas. I hope that I am able to make a
meaningful contribution for other members of PAT.
Secretary: Samantha Brown Hello everyone, I'm Samantha Brown. I have the wonderful
opportunity of being the secretary for Phi Alpha Theta this year. I am a junior
here at UNK working on a degree in Middle Grades Education with endorsements in
math and social sciences. I am originally from Grand Island, but live here in
Kearney now with friends. I love to read, watch movies, exercise, and go out to
dinner with friends and family. Our honor society is open to anybody who wants
to join. We would love to have more people in it this year. Looking forward to
a great year with everyone.
Historian: Megan Veburg
Why hello there. I am Megan Veburg and am so excited to be
Phi Alpha Theta's Historian once again. I'm a junior this year and originally
hail from Shelby, Nebraska. I'm a history major with a minor in German, (Guten
Tag) with hopes of being a professor someday. This should be a great year for
us and as new members appear it can only get better!
Faculty Advisor: Dr. Roger Davis Professor of History
Greetings. I teach Latin American and United States history and do research on Hispanics in the Great Plains region and on political culture in 19th century South America. I am originally from Ohio, and spent my graduate years in Tucson, Arizona, before setting down roots here in central Nebraska. Phi Alpha Theta is a great organization providing opportunities for students to be recognized for their academic achievements in the discipline of History.
