Dr. Krista Forrest has her M.S. in Cognitive Development and Ph.D in Social Psychology, both from North Carolina State University. She has been teaching at UNK since 1997. Prior to coming to UNK, she taught part time for both Elon College (now Elon University) and NCSU. Since coming to UNK, Dr. Forrest has taught General Psychology, Human Development, Adolescent Psychology, Group Dynamics, Adulthood and Aging and Psychology and Law. In addition to teaching large lecture and small seminar classes, Dr. Forrest also mentors many students interested either in the study of psychology and law or issues related to teaching pedagogy. Due to her classroom and mentoring experiences, Dr. Forrest has received several teaching awards. Examples include the UNK Creative Teaching Award (2003, 2005, 2011), Mortar Board Teaching Recognitions (2007, 2010, 2011), The College of Natural and Social Sciences Faculty Mentor Award (2010) and the Pratt-Heins Award from Teaching (2011). Of more importance to her new role as interim director of CTE is her many teaching publications. Since 1992 she has published 17 articles and presented 25 papers related to teaching or learning. Although Dr. Forrest is looking forward to bringing these experiences into her role as The Interim Director of CTE, her firm belief is that good teaching and good learning are synonymous with good listening.
