Application Process

Students at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, can participate in an international experience in almost any country. Programs range in length from several weeks to a full year. Regardless of the field you choose to study, a program is available for you and class credit will transfer to the UNK curriculum if you plan carefully with your academic advisor prior to departure. The Study Abroad Office is ready to help you choose a program that is right for you.

  Steps to Take:
 

  1. Make and appointment with Ann Marie Park, Study Abroad Coordinator (parkam@unk.edu) to discuss opportunities that fit your criteria for a study abroad program.
     
  2. Select a program by talking with the study abroad coordinator and conducting research on the web.
     
  3. Complete a UNK Application which is either available on-line (for select programs only) or in the Study Abroad Office (Welch Hall #104).
     
  4. Complete a Host Institution Application form (when necessary).
     
  5. Submit all applications and associated material by individual program deadline.
     
  6. Obtain a Passport
     
  7. Wait for Acceptance Letter from the Host Institution.
     
  8. Apply for Visa at the nearest host country consulate.

 

UNK's Study Abroad Office CAN:

  • Advise you in selecting a program that suits your academic and personal needs
  • Provide applications and materials on UNK's study abroad options
  • Discuss differences in educational systems
  • Provide information on UNK policies and procedures
  • Help connect you with study abroad returnees international students from you chosen program


UNK's Study Abroad Office CANNOT:

  • Choose your study abroad program for you
  • Approve courses taken while abroad for use in your degree program (your academic advisor does this)
  • Register you for classes for the semester upon return
  • Forward your mail overseas
  • Make your travel or flight arrangements
  • Provide applications for your passport
  • Provide applications for visas
  • Remove the holds on your records
  • Negotiate a change of grade
