Brazil - Summer

PUC-Rio offers an intensive Portuguese language program during the month of July. There are five levels of Portuguese offered (Beginning, Intermediate I and II, and Advanced I and II) each offered for 90 contact hours.

PUC-Rio offers a certificate of completion for the summer program. There are annually around 75 students from around the world that participate in the summer program and the class size is about 10 students. Tow excursions are included in the program fee: city tour and day trip to Petopolis. Transportation isa chartered bus

Monday - Friday, 8:30 - 1:00
Students will earn 6 US credits on this program because there are 90 classroom hours.

Room & Board:

All international students will be housed in a homestay situation as there are no accommodations on campus. The homestay families are screened by personal house visits conducted by the housing coordinator in the international center. Students will be given the exact address of their homestay before travel. Homestay will include a private room, closet, desk, breakfast, towels, and linens. Kitchen use and other meals can be negotiated with the host family.

Prerequisites:

None.

Students do not need any Portuguese language training prior to application. A placement test will be given upon arrival. All instructors are full-time professors from the department of Portuguese as a Foreign Language and have a PhD in PFL at PUC-Rio. These professors teach Portuguese during the summer and academic year at PUC-Rio.

Students traveling to Brazil will need a visa stamped in their passport for entry by the Brazilian Consulate in Chicago. The cost of a Brazilian visa is more then $100 and takes several weeks to process.
