Medical Insurance

The University of Nebraska system requires F-1 and J-1 visa holders to have medical insurance to cover the cost of medical treatment. UNK offers medical insurance for international students that meets the visa requirements.  If you purchase your own medical insurance, please keep in mind that the insurance requirements for F-1 and J-1 visa holders are different.  Before purchasing your own medical insurance, make sure that you know if you will be granted an F-1 visa, or a J-1 visa.

F-1 Visa Insurance Requirements

  • Deductible must be $500 or less
  • $50,000 USD major medical coverage
  • $10,000 USD medical evacuation
  • $7,500 USD repatriation of remains
  • Coverage must be paid in full for the entire semester

J-1 Visa Insurance Requirements

  • Deductible must be $500 or less
  • $100,000 USD major medical coverage
  • $50,000 USD medical evacuation
  • $25,000 USD repatriation of remains
  • Coverage must be paid in full for the entire semester
