| The English Language Institute of the University of Nebraska - Kearney began as a service to students from foreign universities with cooperative agreements with UNK. The original plan of the Institute was to provide the best English language and American culture program available at a reasonable cost to enable students from sister institutions to be able to afford to study in the U.S. |

Although the Institute maintains that same spirit today, it is now open to all qualified students who wish to learn English at a mid-sized university in the Midwest where the focus is on teaching and learning in a safe, nurturing environment.
The Institute provides international students a comprehensive way to prepare themselves for admission into a degree seeking program of study at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
