Residential and Greek Life- Housing Information

Approximately 2,600 students live on-campus at UNK in ten traditional residence halls, two Greek complexes, and one apartment-style complex. The Office of Residential and Greek Life, located in Conrad Hall, coordinates all campus housing and is dedicated to maintaining an environment conducive to educational and personal development. Each residence hall facility is supervised by a live-in hall director and is staffed by resident advisors who live on each floor.

DI_roomPlease note that all freshmen are required to live on campus during their first year at the University. Exceptions are made only for students who are (1) living with his/her parents or legal guardians and commuting from the local Kearney community, (2) 19 years old or older on the first day of fall semester classes, or (3) married, a single parent, or have a documented medical/mental health condition which makes it impracticable to meet the freshman housing requirement, assuming that the student’s needs cannot be accommodated on campus.

Most students living on campus are also required to participate in the food service program provided with their Residential and Greek Life contract. Campus food service areas are centrally located in the Nebraskan Student Union and in both of the Greek housing complexes. These areas provide comfortable surroundings for dining, studying, and meetings.

Students can apply for housing online via a large yellow button labeled "Campus Housing" on the MyBLUE homepage.  The contract is for the full academic year. A $50 non-refundable processing fee is required for the contract to be processed. A contract cancellation fee may be assessed for canceling your room and board contract. Please refer to the housing contract terms or contact the Office of Residential and Greek Life for more information.

Housing Contract

Yroom3our student-housing contract is for the entire academic year (fall and spring semesters) or whenever you sign a contract to enter a residence hall. Your right to occupy that room begins no earlier than 8:00 a.m. on the designated date of opening (usually the Thursday before school starts) and ends at 5:00 p.m. on the day of spring commencement. For those students graduating, withdrawing from school, getting married, or performing student teaching/academic internships, there is no contract cancellation fee.

Read your housing contract carefully. If you do not understand it, contact the Office of Residential and Greek Life for assistance. The contract discusses room costs, liability, meal plans, contract termination, damages and “break housing.” “Break” means any time classes are not in session. The breaks at UNK are Thanksgiving Break, which usually begins at 5:00 p.m. the Tuesday before the U.S. Holiday Thanksgiving in November; Winter Break, three weeks at the end of December and first part of January; and Spring break, which is one week in March.
