The U.N.K. New Music Festival was established in 2002 to provide a venue for community exposure to recent contemporary classical music, and to provide a platform for U.N.K. student composers to have their works performed and critiqued by active professionals. The spring semester festival typically includes recitals, a student masterclass, and a composers' symposium; and has drawn professional and student composers from institutions and cities in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Wyoming, and several other countries. Performers for the recitals of the festival have included U.N.K. faculty and students, as well as guest musicians.
