The Concerts-on-the-Platte recital series, which features full-scale recitals of U.N.K. music faculty and guest-artists, was inaugurated during the summer of 1999 to better reflect the institution's growing role in Nebraska as a magnet for faculty artist-performers. With an increasing number of music performance majors and other music students interested in presenting recitals themselves, the series has served to provide professional examples to the department's growing enrollment. Included has been a broad cross-section of chamber, instrumental, vocal and solo piano recitals, as well as jazz combo events. A concert season usually features between twelve and sixteen recitals. Guest artists have traveled from as far as Poland, Germany, and Korea to perform on the series. All concerts are free and open to the public.Concert Calendar.
"In the past few years, Kearney has turned into a mid-American hot spot for touring artists and local musicians hitting it big. One organization that is constantly bringing new acts and showcasing local talent is the Concerts-on-the-Platte Series. Chances are you will enjoy them. Concerts are held at the UNK Fine Arts Hall and feature sounds from the UNK faculty and touring guest musicians. These concerts offer more of a classical touch with vocalists and performances on the piano, cello and violin. I think this is one [of] the best-kept secrets that UNK offers to the public because the talent is extraordinary and the showcases are absolutely free and open to everyone." --Mike Nyffeler (Kearney Hub editorial: September 23, 2003)
