U.N.K.'s annual Spring Piano Workshop, a day-long event, has attracted talented piano students and teachers from throughout the region to participate in a wide range of activities including master classes, recitals, and workshop sessions focused on historical, technical, cultural, creative and interpretive aspects of piano performance and teaching. In addition, student participants have the opportunity to work with U.N.K. piano faculty members in smaller master class sessions in preparation for recitals, auditions and competitions.
In recent years, the Spring Piano Workshop has featured a number of international guest artists including Gayla Foster: "The Piano Music of Francis Poulenc," Zsuzsa Balint: "Performance Preparation", Maurice Hinson: "Humor in Piano Music," Tony Caramia: "Jazz Pedagogy and Performance," Barbara Lister-Sink: "Wellness in Performance and Practice," Donna Lee: "Building the Bridge to Healthy Piano Technique," Phyllis Alpert Lehrer: "The Inner Game of Music," William Westney: "Un-Master Class," Dennis Alexander: "Music and Motion," Carolyn True: "Musical ESP (Expressively Synthesized Performances)—The Five Musical Senses," Polina Khatsko and Dmitri Vorobiev, "The Russian Piano School," Robert Vandall "Making Music: Helping Students Make a Piece of Music Come Alive" and "Playing Like a Virtuoso," and Catherine Kautsky: "Two Piano Icons: Understanding Beethoven and Debussy." The 2013 UNK Spring Piano Workshop will feature guest pianist/clinician Marvin Blickenstaff.
Open to all Piano Teachers and Students grades 7-12 and Collegiate.
