Department of Communication

We offer a diverse range of programs that represents the vital role communication plays in our ever-changing world. Because of communication’s importance, a major or minor in communication is an excellent career choice. We are impressed each year by the jobs our graduating students are offered.

Cutting-edge technology is available to each student studying in the Department of Communication. The Mitchell Center classrooms, located next to the Calvin T. Ryan Library, are all ‘smart.’ ‘Smart’ classrooms are equipped with computers, VCRs, ELMO overhead projectors and sound systems. Our Macintosh computer lab is equipped with the most up-to-date software for students to use as they work with words, images, video and sound. KLPR-FM, the campus radio station, began streaming its content on the Internet last year and is now on an automated system which allows the radio station to operate 24 hours a day/7 days a week. The Antelope and The Horn, the campus newspaper and magazine, respectively, are also available online as well as in the standard print format.

As a student at UNK, you have the opportunity to work on the newspaper, television and/or radio staff. This opportunity allows you to gain hands-on experience while you take classes in your chosen field. Student organizations give you a chance to take on leadership roles as you learn more about career opportunities and participate in service projects.

We hope the information you find here will answer your questions. If you have more specific questions, please contact the department through the information located on the contact page.
