When editing an existing page or creating a new page in Ektron there are five main buttons available at the very top-left of the screen. They are Publish, Submit (only visible to certain account types), Checkin, Save and Cancel. The following describes each of those options:
| Publish: Clicking the Publish button will save any changes you have made to a page, close the Ektron editing window and instantly "publish" the page onto the world wide web. Thus, the changes would instantly be visible to anyone visiting your website from that point on. |

Checkin: Checking a page in will save any changes you have made to a page and close the Ektron editing window. Your changes WILL NOT be visible on the world wide web by your website visitors. Think of this as saving a draft version of the page. You can come back to edit the page further at any point, but visitors to your website will not see the changes until you Publish the page.
*Note: If there are several people able to edit the same page(s) then checking it in will allow the other people to open that page and make their own edits. If you do not check the page in (if it appears in the "Content Checked Out" section of the Smart Desktop), then no other editors will be able to open your page until you do. Publishing a page instantly checks that page in at the same time.

Save: Saving a page in Ektron is the same as saving a page in any other program. You changes will be saved but you will remain in the Ektron editing window, able to continue working. If your computer crashes you you have a power failure before you save any changes you have made, those changes will be lost. There is no automatic save feature in Ektron.
*Note: Checking a page in or Publishing it will obviously save your changes at the same time.
|
 |
| |
|
Cancel: If you click on this Cancel button any changes you have made, even if you have Saved them, will be lost.
*Note: Closing your Ektron Workarea window by WITHOUT using any of the above buttons will lose any changes you had made since your last save AND will leave the page in Checked Out status. Checked Out pages can not be edited by any other Ektron users until they have been checked back in.

| Submit: This button will only appear for you if you are part of an Approval Chain within Ektron. If your changes to a page must be approved by someone else before they are published to the world wide web then you will see this symbol in place of the Publish button. Clicking this button checks the page in and sends an email to the next person in the approval chain to verify the changes and publish it. |
