Campus Housing Information 

 Approximately 2,000 students live on-campus at UNK in:

  • 5 Traditional residence halls
  • 2 Greek complexes
  • 2 Suite-style complexes

The Office of Residence Life coordinates all campus housing and is dedicated to maintaining an environment conducive to educational and personal development.

Each residence hall is supervised by a live-in Graduate Hall Director and is staffed by Resident Assistants who live on each floor. 

 Amenities Include:  

  • Computer labs with access to the UNK mainframe computer network  
  • Lounges  
  • Kitchens 
  • Laundry facilities - unlimited use 
  • Quiet study areas 
  • Recreational space   
  • Internet access and local phone service 
  • All rooms are cable ready and provided with basic furnishings 

A variety of specific living environment options are available to students, including honors/academic floors, double or single rooms, co-ed by room floors, upperclassmen halls, and Greek fraternity or sorority houses. Smoking is not allowed in the residence halls, however many halls designate an outside area with benches for smoking.

General Room Information  

Putting together a room with your roommate can be exciting and rewarding.  There are many ways you can make your new residence feel like home.  We allow decorations and furnishings that do not deface the room or create hazards for you and your hall mates.  Some items for discussion with your roommate might be:  television, telephone, audio equipment, carpet, trash can, compact fridge.

Each double occupancy room comes equipped with: 

  • two twin beds (Beds can be bunked or lofted to maximize floor space Please contact www.collegeproducts.com to rent a loft.) 
  • two desks 
  • two desk chairs 
  • closet and dresser space 
  • window coverings 
  • one telephone outlet 
  • one cable TV outlet- TV must have HD capabilities 
  • two computer ports for direct connection

Services and Conveniences

At UNK we are confident that you will find everything you need in your very own residence hall!  Along with the variety of living environment options, each room is equipped with local telephone service (including voice mail and call waiting), basic cable television service and high speed internet access.  Each of our facilities also offers:

Every hall manages a front desk operation, which serves as the hub of the community.  From the front desk you can do the following:

  • receive your mail/packages                                   
  • purchase stamps 
  • get change for vending machines,
    check out vacuums, games, and cleaning supplies
     
  • receive lock-out keys 
  • make photocopies 

UNK also offers for rent the following items:

Break and Summer Housing Information 

 

 
Facility Information 

Thorough inspections of residence halls have been completed to determine the presence of asbestos and lead based paint materials.  Asbestos and lead based paints are safe when left undisturbed.   Generally asbestos may be present in floor tiles, sprayed ceilings of the towers and plumbing insulation.  To ensure your safety, do not drill into, chip, break apart, sand, carve, cut into, or in any way disturb your floor, ceiling, pipe insulation, hand rails (stairwells) and glazed ceramic block tile (bathrooms and hallways).  These activities are strictly prohibited as outlined in the Residential and Greek Life Handbook Room Personalization section.  Specific detailed locations of substances can be viewed in the Residential and Greek Life or Facilities Management & Planning Offices.  Please report any instances where you observe floor tiles or sprayed ceilings to be recently disturbed.  Additionally complete work orders available at your hall front desk (area) for any maintenance requests in your room and living areas within the hall.
