The UNK Staff Senate would like to recognize Sue Pedersen with the November 2009 UNK Employee Achievement Award.  She is a highly respected health care professional whose work has been recognized by her colleagues across the campus, as well as at the regional and state levels

Sue is an active member of the UNK Emergency Operations Team.  She has been vital in the campus’ continuing planning and preparation for Avian Flu – much of which is currently being utilized with the H1N1 pandemic.  Her work has been recognized both regionally and statewide as well by working very closely with Two Rivers Public Health and presentations at conferences throughout the state.

Sue continually takes on a number of additional projects while maintaining a positive attitude.  Months ago, Sue stepped up by filling the role of Associate Director after the position became vacant.  She ran day-to-day operations in the office throughout the search process to fill the Associate Director’s positions, all while volunteering across campus to talk about health related issues.

Sue is very concerned with what can be done to make sure that students are being served and made to feel right at home.  Also Sue is always on the go – consistently moving forward while solving problems and serving the department and campus as a whole, which includes being connected with international students.  Recently, Sue exemplified both of these ideals when an international student contracted a highly contagious illness, Sue stopped by the student’s off-campus apartment daily to administer medicine and to ensure the student was recovering.

Many times, Sue has gone above and beyond what is required of her and does a lot of work outside of the office, on her own time.  She is proud of the job she does and it shows.
