The UNK Department of the Month for December 2005 is the  Landscaping and Grounds Department. This small group of individuals maintain the campus grounds, which also includes MONA, The Alumni House, the practice football fields, and the Safety Center Driving Range. Their area of responsibility is over 180 acres which includes over 4.5 miles of sidewalks.

During the past year, the department has planted over 50 trees, numerous shrubs and plants on campus. Additionally, repairs have been made to the irrigation system and the intramural softball fields have been restored to a condition that allows the city and other organizations the ability to rent the fields for their use. Other duties performed by the department include grass seeding, tree and plant pruning, painting lines for football, band, summer camps, and intramurals, paper and can recycling, policing grounds for litter, mowing, grass trimming, weeding flower beds, and setting up tables, chairs, and tents for events such as Blue and Gold. During the winter, the department removes snow on the sidewalks and parking lots. This past Monday the crew was working in freezing temperatures and 55 mile an hour winds. Much of the time was helping move cars that were stuck in the snow and ice.

Thank you for all you do and congratulations to the Landscaping and Grounds crew for being UNK’s December Department of the Month.
