Staff Senate is pleased to announce that the November, 2005 Employee of the Month is Laure Smith. Laure received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from UNK and was a member of the Loper women’s basketball team. As the Associate Director of Athletics, she has many responsibilities, such as compiling documents for the NCAA, developing the Student – Athlete Handbook, insuring athletes are attending classes and understanding the policies and procedures they must follow, and serves as a University representative to the NCAA.
Laure also coordinates the postgraduate scholarship nominations and the NCAA Degree Completion Scholarships. Many of the duties Laure performs are behind the scenes and are not noticeable to people attending athletic events, but are vital to the success of Loper Athletics.
In addition to her work on campus, Laure is well known for her service to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and is recognized as a quality administrator. She is also active in the NCAA at the national level, where she served as Chair of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship Committee.
Laure’s co-workers have commented that Laure makes a positive difference in the lives of the student athletes. She is a tireless worker and is always willing to do whatever it takes to get things done. Her attention to detail, devotion to the University and the students, work ethic and personality, and her willingness to go the extra mile to insure the students are being successful, is why Laure is a success at her job.
Laure’s commitment and loyalty to UNK is second to none. She is a true team player and a tremendous asset to the University.
