Business
Manager, Facilities
Employee
Achievement Award – December 2010
The role of Facilities is to support others at UNK In their teaching,
research and outreach. Sharie provides outstanding support to the university in
her job as Business Manager for Facilities Department. In this role, she is
responsible for: accounting functions, purchasing, accounts payable, billing,
budgeting, inventory control; for Facilities Management and Planning personnel
administration and related activities; for disposing of university surplus
materials; and for Motor Pool operations. In addition, Sharie manages, plans,
and coordinates non-academic campus events, allowing for minimal disruption to
the campus. Her efforts keep clean, reliable vehicles available for faculty and
students for classes, for Admissions recruiters, for various staff travel and
campus tours. She works with the campus and Kearney community to coordinate
campus space and support for events ranging from Mr. and Ms. Basketball to
state and collegiate speech tournaments, to academic conferences. She manages Facilities accounting
functions ranging from small P-card to construction budgets and payments to
surplus disposal.
Sharie was a new manager, in a position that was blending long-time staff
with staff new to Facilities. She gave appropriate feedback and encouragement
to her long-time Facilities staff, motivating them and maintaining their
morale. She appropriately delegated significant responsibilities to new
Facilities staff, again motivating them and maintaining their morale.
Sharie always "owns” a problem, works to identify solutions, and
implements those solutions that she can implement. She is always willing to
work with others to solve problems that can be solved, and to reduce their impact
if they can't be solved. Sharie
has a problem-solving approach to situations that makes her an asset to this
team, and a good spokesperson for the department.
Sharie works daily as a UNK representative to the local and regional
community, in her role as events coordinator. Her efforts to facilitate campus
events are integral to UNK outreach efforts. Sharie works directly serving students as the primary
Facilities contact for Loper Design Challenge, which gives Interior Design
students a real-world construction experience. She is a recent graduate of Leadership UNK.
Staff Senate would like to congratulate Sharie on her selection as
the December 2010 Employee Achievement Award recipient.
