I. Call to order
II. Adoption of Agenda - Kauders/Larson
III. Minutes of June 14, 2005 meeting approved- Kauders/Bressington
IV. Financial Report – Kauders reported a favorable balance in the State Fund Account and a sizeable balance in the Auxiliary account; approved: Bressington, Uden
V. Correspondence - Weed distributed a thank you from one of the recipients of the Office/Service Dependent Scholarship.
VI. Unfinished Business
A./B. Survey/Goals – Schroeder summarized an article on the benefits of shared governance. Following lengthy discussions, Senate members determined that goals for the coming year should include continuing current activities plus:
- Promote salary improvements for UNK staff - The Executive Committee will meet with the Chancellor to determine how Staff Senate can most effectively pursue this issue.
- Promote shared governance at UNK - Focus on working with Faculty Senate and Student Senate on issues pertinent to all employees and students at UNK
- Promote prorated tuition benefits for part-time benefit eligible employees
Bressington reported that a campus climate survey was in the planning stages for possible distribution in early Fall. It was decided that information from this survey could also be a valuable tool for determining further goals for Staff Senate.

VII. Committee Reports
A. Election – No Report
B. Employee Recognition Committee – There are 8-10 nominations for the SAFE Award. The Executive Committee will meet at the end of July to select the award winner.
C. Performance Management Committee – No Report
D. Procedures Committee – No Report
E. Professional Development Committee – Bressington reported that 56 people participated in the recently held Poker Walk. The Committee is working on other activities to be announced later.
F. Office/Service Dependent Scholarship – No Report
G. Making a Difference – Bressington reminded Senators that Juli Burney has been recruited to offer a morning and afternoon session on gender communications issues. The presentations are entitled "Gender Benders".
H. Mentoring – No Report
I. Information Technology Advisory Committee – No Report
J. Strategic Planning Committee – No Report
K. Centennial Committee – No Report
VIII. New Business
A. Staff Senate Website – Larson provide a printout of the new Staff Senate website which is now on-line. Larson recognized the efforts of Glenda Wilson who has been updating the information and converting the site to the new Ektron format in her spare time. Staff Senators were encouraged to check the site and their on-line profiles for accuracy, and also asked new Senators to complete the information for posting their profiles and forward to Larson as soon as possible. Any other updates/revisions to the site should also be forwarded to Larson.
B. August Staff Senate Meeting Date – Changed to August 9th, pending response from senators who were absent. The change is necessitated by the large number of Staff Senators who will be attending the Administrative Retreat on the regular meeting date. Newton asked that any senators who could not attend an August 9th meeting contact him as soon as possible.
C. Staff Senate Office Proposed Move – Newton announced that the Staff Senate/Faculty Senate office will be moved from Founders 2152 to 2141C.
D. ERC Committee Department of the Month Procedures for Recognition – Newton announced that future Department of the Month “treat-box” presentations will be conducted/attended by the Employee Recognition Committee. Newton offered to also attend if the committee so desired. Formal recognition will continue to be held at the Staff Senate meeting.
E. Open Floor – Three members of Student Senate were welcomed to the meeting. They in turn invited Staff Senate members to attend the Great Loper Kickoff that is being hosted by Student Senate on August 23rd. The event will be held in the Great Room at the Nebraskan Student Union.
IX. Announcements
A. Next Meeting – August 9, 2005, 10:30 a.m., - Nebraskan Student Union 310.
B. Blue and Gold Day – Newton announced the event is scheduled for August 19, 2005. Staff Senate will not host a booth for Blue/Gold.
