Recognition of Excellence Award

December 2009
Staff of Residential and Greek Life

The UNK Staff Senate is pleased to recognize the Staff within Residential and Greek Life with the December 2009 Recognition of Excellence Award for recently hosting the 2009 UMR-ACUHO (Upper Midwest Region - Association of College and University Housing Officers) Conference at the Ramada Inn Convention Center here in Kearney.

Residential and Greek Life Staff started planning for hosting this conference over 2 years ago when they submitted, and received, a competitive bid to host UMR-ACUHO 2009 and have documented hundreds of hours of planning and preparation since that time.

UMR-ACUHO is a regional association of housing professionals from 10 states (Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin).  This year’s conference, held the week of October 26-30, welcomed 358 registrants from 91 colleges and universities, from across each of those 10 states.  The conference included a total budget of $55,514, with partner sponsorships from Chartwells, ASI, and the Kearney Visitors Bureau.

Highlights of the conference included a 2-day planning session for UMR-ACUHO leadership, then 3 days of workshops, breakout sessions, pick-me-ups, discussions on topics of regional and national interest, best-practice trainings, campus and community tours, as well as other activities, all for the purpose of supporting UMR's mission which has three specific purposes: (1) to educate, (2) to conduct research and (3) to provide service to member institutions within the region.  In carrying out this mission, the interchange of energies, ideas, and efforts produces an impact greater than the sum of its separate parts and ensures a level of program quality consistent with the expectations and needs of the diverse peoples and institutions of UMR-ACUHO.

The Host Committee for the conference consisted entirely of UNK Residential and Greek Life staff including:  Anita Kucera (Associate Director of Residential and Greek Life), Gail Sims-Aubert (Assistant Director of Residential and Greek Life), Jennifer Harvey (Thompson Scholars Learning Community Coordinator), Marla Trampe and Janet Clark (Office Staff), Tim McMullen (Technology Coordinator), Tracy Lungrin (Greek Advisor), and Scott Benson (Complex Director).  Volunteer staff for the conference included UNK Hall Directors Justin Gohdes, Lenore Yaeger, Kat Clark, Theresa Harrison, Scott Seeba, Matt Allbright, Anjie Swidergal, Nicole Smith, Chris Hein, and Adam Dea.

In recognition for all of their time and effort to represent both the UNK and Kearney communities in the most positive light, the Staff Senate is proud to honor the Residential and Greek Life Staff with the December 2009 Recognition of Excellence Award.
