Congratulations to Michael Pelster, Assistant Director of Undergraduate Recruitment in the Office of Undergraduate Recruitment & Admissions for being recognized as the July 2009 UNK Employee of the Month.

Mike began his employment at the University of Nebraska at Kearney in August 2004 as an Admissions Counselor after graduating from UNK in December 2003.  As an undergraduate student, Mike was a Student Leader on the Summer Advising and Enrollment team and was very involved as a student leader in Greek Life and intramural sports.  After successful years traveling as an admissions counselor in central and western Nebraska, Mike was promoted to Assistant Director of Undergraduate Recruitment in May 2006, and received his MBA from UNK this May as well.

Mike in an integral part of the undergraduate recruitment and admissions team.  He manages undergraduate recruitment which includes supervising the admissions counselors and their outreach activities, all on and off-campus recruitment events, the campus visit program, and Summer Advising and Enrollment.  One of Mike’s biggest responsibilities for UNK is coordinating the campus visit program.  He supervises 16 Student Diplomats that give the campus tours as well as communicates with departments on a daily basis to arrange faculty appointments for prospective students and their families.  During peak visit times throughout the year, UNK can average nearly 90 campus visitors a week!  Mike coordinates all those visits, all those academic appointments, plus any other people or places they want to see while visiting campus.  Since 2006, the campus visit program has grown and improved tremendously.

Mike is a true Loper that bleeds Blue and Gold.  He is an outstanding member of the undergraduate recruitment and admissions team and the UNK family!  Mike is an active member of the UNK and Kearney community being a Leadership UNK and Leadership Kearney graduate.

In recognition for all his efforts on behalf of undergraduate recruitment and admissions, the UNK Staff Senate is pleased to recognize Mike Pelster as the July 2009 UNK Employee of the Month.
