June 2009
The UNK Staff Senate is pleased to recognize Jami Schaffnitt as the June 2009 UNK Employee of the Month. For a number of years, Jami has been a dedicated employee at the University of Nebraska at Kearney in the Nebraskan Student Union. She is a natural leader, an extremely hard worker, and her positive and upbeat attitude is contagious to both students and her colleagues.
Jami is committed to serving the students at UNK through a number of different organizations. Jami encourages students to engage in campus life as she plans events and advises student groups such as Loper Programming and Activities Council (LPAC), the Sapphire Dance Team, and Spirit Squad. Jami is consistently showing her willingness to give of her time and energy for the benefit of students regardless of the personal sacrifice involved, the late nights and/or weekend hours, and the resulting impact that Jami has on UNK’s students is second to none.
Sarah Nordhues, a student employee at the Welcome Desk in the Union as well as co-captain of the dance team shared, “When I think of Jami, several words comes to my mind, some of them being; kind, hard-working, understanding, professional, and overall an amazing person . . . Jami always is happy to help out in any way possible, which I feel is a great quality to have. Not only does she do a great job with the University, but she represents UNK in a very positive way.”
A member of LPAC, Julia Lyons included, “Jami has been a wonderful advisor to work with. She not only gets the task at hand accomplished, she does it with a smile and more enthusiasm than anyone I know. Jami keeps LPAC events fun and light-hearted while promoting and encouraging students to volunteer to help. Jami is always willing to chat and sincerely cares about each student’s personal life. In a nut shell . . . JAMI IS AWESOME!”
It is obvious that Jami’s students enjoy being involved in the organizations she is advising. Jami’s co-workers also enjoy their time with her. They share that Jami is an outstanding colleague, she is professional while adding a dose of fun to the office, and she treats everyone with respect, and always maintains an exceptionally high level of service.
