UNK Department of the Month
The UNK Staff Senate is pleased to recognize the Psychology Department as the January 2009 UNK Department of the Month. The Psychology Department is composed of nine full-time and one part-time faculty.
On November 12th, the Psychology Department hosted its 5th Biennial High School Psychology Fair. More than 450 students from 20 schools across Nebraska attended. All participants were enrolled in a high school psychology course and participated in demonstrations and exercises representing a wide range of research and applications in psychology. 107 UNK psychology students, along with the Psychology Department faculty, conducted 62 demonstrations - most of which involved hands-on experience. This event not only exposed high school students to the psychology program, but to the entire UNK campus. The Psychology Department spent many hours preparing for this event.
The Psychology Department is also responsible for planning the Psychology Fair and preparing students to participate in the NPS/PERK joint convention in Bellevue. 12 UNK students prepared a presentation for the convention.
The Psychology Department is now working to prepare for the Great Plains Students’ Psychology Convention they will host in March. This normally involves 400-600 faculty and students from colleges and universities from the Great Plains area.
For all of their amazing work with all of these events the UNK Staff Senate would like to recognize the Psychology Department as the January 2009 Department of the Month.
Thank you to the sponsors of the Department of the Month: UNK Athletics and Staff Senate.
