UNK Employee of the Month
October 2008
The UNK Staff Senate is pleased to recognize, Wilma Heinowski as the October 2008 UNK Employee of the Month. Wilma has provided services to the University for over twenty years and in those years of service she has held several positions including Police Officer, Corporal, and now Parking Services Coordinator. No matter the position Wilma always strives to provide the people around her with the best service possible. Whether she is planning for the future or addressing an opportunity that has arisen she looks at the situation from multiple points of view to determine how it will affect the university and her department.
With so many functions occurring on campus Wilma has taken great pride in making sure these events are successful. She puts in countless hours coordinating with other departments and agencies to pull each event off. As a Corporal with the Police Department she ensured the appropriate security measures where taken before, during and after each event. This included security sweeps, traffic control, and adequate security staff at the event. As the Parking Services Coordinator Wilma works with the event organizers to try to meet the events needs while still maintaining a level of service to the University for its normal parking activity.
Wilma was successful in assisting the Facilities Management and Planning Department in coordinating the many construction projects which affected large sections of campus. Wilma helped to ensure the campus’ needs were met and disruption to campus access and parking was limited.
Wilma always finds time to attend professional development training and perform research to ensure she remains effective in her field. She recently researched, purchased, installed and implemented a new parking system allowing customers to complete a large portion of their business with Parking Services online. She has also moved Parking Services from the manual system of the hand written and hand entered tickets to the much faster and efficient handheld ticket writing devices saving the department time and money.
No matter what Wilma tackles she takes pride in her work and thinks of others first and the UNK Staff Senate would like to recognize Wilma as the October Employee of the Month.
