The UNK Staff Senate Employee Recognition Committee announces Sonja Darveau, Accounting Clerk III in the Finance Office, as the Employee of the Month for August 2004. During the 16 years she has served as the accounting clerk in the Finance Office, she has seen many changes affecting her position. The most notable changes have been the implementation of the university's administrative system (SAP) and the state's administrative system (NIS). Sonja has responded to these changes with a positive, open mind and has enjoyed the challenges.
Sonja is responsible for monitoring the daily interfaces between SAP and other systems, including the Student Information System (SIS) and the Nebraska Information System (NIS). Her strong accounting skills intuitively allow her to quickly identify problems or potential issues. When she approaches management with the problems, or potential issues, she also suggests possible solutions. Further, she is exceptionally accurate in her work and posts entries so that they are clear and understandable to the system users. Sonja has a solid working knowledge of all areas of the Finance Office as well as the other business offices. As a result, her co-workers look to her for advice and guidance.
She also assists in SAP training and fields most telephone calls in the office regarding questions about SAP and other related business processes. Her manner is friendly, encouraging and patient. She understands the system well and strives to make users more comfortable with SAP by offering tips and short-cuts on how to use it. On a recent SAP survey, one user commented: "I have learned more from Sonja than from any training or other person on this campus, and it doesn't matter what area my question falls in, she can help. I appreciate her willingness to help me, and her positive attitude."
Sonja's experience, intelligence and teamwork attitude make her an invaluable resource to management, her co-workers in Business & Finance, and to the campus departments she serves. Staff Senate is pleased to recognize Sonja Darveau as UNK Employee of the Month for August.
