The UNK Staff Senate Employee Recognition Committee announces David A. Webster as the UNK Employee of the Month for May 2004.
David A. Webster, Painter II with the Facilities Department, has been named Employee of the Month for May. A KSC/UNK employee for the past 36 years, Dave has worked diligently to maintain the appearance of the university. Over the years, Facilities personnel estimate that he has likely painted each room on the campus at least twice, and heavy use areas more than twice.
This has been no small task. For the most part, he has accomplished the work on his own. Only occasionally has he had help from other Facilities employees or part-time summer help. He undauntedly works to try to keep ahead of the numerous requests for painting that come in to Facilities on a daily basis--from touch-ups to total rooms, halls, commons areas, rest rooms, ceilings, parking areas and building exteriors or general Facilities painting. And he has done so ever mindful that he is operating on a tight budget.
Dave is described as being one of the friendliest, as well as most polite, considerate and humble individuals on campus. He never hesitates to stop what he is doing to assist co-workers, students or campus visitors with their requests. On any given day, you may find Dave painting, making signs, assisting with a move, helping build scaffolding, setting up staging for an event or picking up trash, but whatever he is doing, he does it with pride and a smile. Regardless of the number or variety of projects assigned to him, Dave accomplishes them in a timely manner, always approaching the work with a "can-do" attitude.
Each morning, he begins the day traveling from his home in Gibbon, approximately 30 miles round trip. Regardless of the weather, he regularly reports to work at least 30 minutes before he is scheduled to begin working at 7:00 a.m.
Facilities personnel describe Dave as the kind of employee who sets the standard for all UNK employees with his positive attitude, strong work ethic and the warm sense of camaraderie he shares with all with whom he comes in contact.
