The UNK Staff Senate Employee Recognition Committee announces Donna Day as the UNK Employee of the Month for April 2004.
Donna Day, Clerical Assistant III, has worked in Business Services since 1992. She is an employee who has been assigned several areas of responsibilities. Two very visible responsibilities are University Travel and the University Telephone Directory.
Over the years, Donna has assisted in transforming the University Telephone Directory from a document created originally on a typewriter to the current database, which she assisted in developing and now maintains. In producing the annual University Telephone Directory, Donna has taken great pride in not just creating a printed document, but in assisting departments to determine how and where information should appear. Further, she is careful to determine how the user of the directory will search for information, so the directory is more convenient to use. At the same time, she must also follow university-wide specifications for the directory including format, fonts and information to be included in the publication.
Although this responsibility was recently moved to Accounts Payable, another area of responsibility for Donna has been University travel. Donna taught campus personnel various aspects of the University travel contract, travel policies and procedures, and parked document classes. She was continually reviewing her training materials, conscientiously looking for ways to improve the sessions to ensure that policies were covered clearly. Donna had to follow State and University policies in the auditing of expense reimbursements filed by University employees. However, Donna was very conscientious of the fact that University employees wanted their expense reimbursements to be processed as quickly as possible. Donna worked one-on-one with many university travelers, so that full reimbursement could be achieved in a timely manner.
Donna Day consistently demonstrates a sincere camaraderie with employees in the Office of Business Services. She offers to assist fellow employees in their responsibilities and often changes her work schedule to be sure the office is open to customers throughout the day. She not only answers customer questions, but seeks to increase her knowledge by learning answers to those questions that she cannot immediately answer.
