The UNK Staff Senate Employee Recognition Committee announces Chris Struebing as the UNK Employee of the Month for January 2004.
Chris, a Clerical Assistant III for the Nebraskan Student Union, is responsible for event scheduling for the Nebraskan. As the event scheduler, she not only has to know specific room sizes and seating capacities, she also has to know the needs of food service personnel and set-up crews that provide the support services throughout the facility.
While Chris has many talents and skills, perhaps the one most critical to her daily work in the office is the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. It isn't unusual to see her move from desk to desk to answer the office phones while completing a task at the computer. Further, she regularly demonstrates initiative. When a project requires work beyond her usual day-to-day responsibilities, she does not hesitate to assume additional responsibilities necessary to get a job done. During times when there is a need for a quick setup in one of the rooms or a last minute change in the accommodations, she is quick to volunteer her assistance — whether it's moving tables or arranging chairs.
As a part of her job, Chris also works closely with a variety of students. In so doing, she consistently expresses a sincere concern for the students and a desire to be helpful to them—qualities the students appreciate.
Chris continues to build on her skill and knowledge base as she works towards a degree in business administration. An employee at UNK since 1999, Chris is described as having a drive that motivates her to improve herself, a genuine concern for others and a fun spirit that energizes all around her.
It is with sincere appreciation that Staff Senate gives their combined good wishes in recognizing Chris Struebing as the January 2004 Employee of the Month.
