The Employee Recognition Committee of Staff Senate would like to congratulate the Knowledge and Assistance for Students in Education Office (KASE) for the January 2004 Department of the Month award.

The Knowledge and Assistance for Students in Education Office (KASE) serves students who plan a career in education. As a one-stop shop for all undergraduate and graduate education majors, the office coordinates recruitment, admissions, retention, advising, placement, follow-up and certification efforts.

The KASE Office provides advisory services to students concerning the PRAXIS exam, serves as the admissions headquarters for Teacher Education, provides degree audit reviews and assists in applying for admission to student teaching. KASE Office staff also coordinates seminars for graduating seniors during their student teaching semester to assist students in applying for the Nebraska teaching certificate. Assistance is available for individuals who are interested in out-of-state certification, as well as for teaching certificate renewals.

Members of the KASE staff include: Mary Losey, director and Certification officer; Barb Flaherty, director of Field Experiences; Nikki Kriz, clerical assistant for Certification; and Suzanne Exstrom and Elizabeth Steele, who share the position of secretary for Field Experiences and Certification.

On behalf of Staff Senate and the wider UNK community, we congratulate the KASE Office for being recognized as the Department of the Month for January 2004.
