UNK Employee of the Month
August 2008
The UNK Staff Senate is pleased to recognized Kathleen Ganz, Office Associate in the Health Care Department, as the August 2008 UNK Employee of the Month. Kathy’s warm greeting is the first face students see when they enter Health Care. Her pleasant tone of voice, warm smile and "we can get this done" attitude sets the pace for the Health Care Clinic. Kathy is willing to accept additional tasks as requested even through the multiple distractions at the front desk. She is a champion multi-tasker. She goes with the flow which is ever changing and is an efficient hard worker and a master of details. She is a dedicated team worker and an encouraging presence to the staff always willing to lend a helping hand.
Kathy goes above and beyond the call of duty to make our students feel welcome and cared for. She greets many international students who are working through the immunization process and helps them to understand our requirements in a kind and compassionate way. She often engages them in conversations about their home country and culture and conveys an interest in them despite the often challenging language barriers.
Kathy also cares for our staff and work study students. She organizes "Happy Happy Days" and creates a fun and joyful atmosphere for her fellow workers. She organizes pot luck meals with other departments to encourage communication and cooperation. She even hosted a soup exchange in her home for her co-workers to help them have meals on hand for their busy schedules. She organizes Christmas parties for the department and instigates celebrations and recognition for employee achievements. She is a mentor and a mother figure for our work study students, who often refer to her as their "Mom away from home." She is patient and helpful listening to their worries and successes and truly takes an interest in their lives. She prays for our staff and our students and is ever willing to lend a listening ear or offer an encouraging word.
Away from UNK Kathy is a wife, mother, sister and a daughter-in-law. She has high values for her family and her faith. Kathy truly exemplifies the qualities of an excellent employee therefore, the UNK Staff Senate would like to recognize Kathleen Ganz as the August 2008 UNK Employee of the Month.
