The Employee of the Month for March is Laura Wardyn, cashier/teller in the Finance Office. Thanks to Laura's efforts, the Division of Business & Finance rolled out an user-friendly comprehensive policies and procedures Web site -- http://www.unk.edu/admin/vcbf/policy/-- earlier this year.
Laura researched other policies and procedures Web sites, and integrated the best features of those sites into her design. She solicited and incorporated feedback from the division's departments and campus end-users on the general site design and menu structure. Finally, Laura worked with each director within the division to load their policies into the site, and offered suggestions on the organization and flow of policies to improve efficiency and ease of use. Throughout the project, she remained flexible and positive, and kept those involved focused on the final goal.
A self-starter, Laura volunteered for this project, because she was interested in technology and Web design. Her proficiency in Web design has been the result of her own initiative. She took classes, studied manuals and asked IT personnel questions.
In addition to the policies and procedures Web site, Laura designed the division's departmental home pages to make them more consistent with the UNK home page. She also created a Student Accounts Web page to assist the Finance Office in serving students.
Laura's primary job is as a cashier/teller in the Finance Office. She is exceptional at multi-tasking and has been able to do this project while still providing friendly and effective service to the customers at the teller window.
