Charlene "Char" Copple, Staff Secretary III in Student Health since 1998, is the Employee of the Month for February.
She is well-known for her motto, which is posted on her door: "Busy but interruptible." The resident computer expert, Char keeps the office database current, creating a multitude of original forms and updating the Web site. The staff knows that she will always answer the most mundane question and assist others with their computer mishaps whenever asked, regardless of how busy she is.
She is vigilant in supervising the Student Health and Peer Health Education budgets. She has saved the department money by researching unpaid bills and sending notices for unpaid bills when necessary. Further, Char supervises the implementation of the HIPPA and FERPA compliance and has made recommendations for procedural changes to protect patient confidentiality.
In addition, she has volunteered with the UNK mentoring program, assisted in the Parent Discovery Room during move-in day, and has assisted other offices in setting up computer databases to track students who use their services.
Char regularly goes out of her way to accommodate both students and staff who come to the office. Her personality contributes to boosting morale within the staff and the students she serves. As she goes about her daily work, it is always with a ready smile, good nature and caring attitude. Not only does she work hard to keep the office running smoothly, she works hard to make others around her feel valued and the students who come into the office feel welcome.
Char consistently challenges herself and those around her. She is open to making changes and updating the office in order to accommodate more students and improve patient care.
Described as "a valuable and dependable asset in the office and to the campus," it is a pleasure to name Charlene "Char" Copple Employee of the Month.
