The UNK Staff Senate is privileged to recognize Marilyn Morehouse as the February 2008 UNK Employee of the Month. Marilyn always puts students first! You can count on her to ask how a procedure will impact students and have individual examples of potential issues. Marilyn's attention to detail means that things get done right the first time and you can always count on her to make sure “the little things” don’t fall through the cracks.
When it comes to make-up examinations or accommodations testing, both faculty and students can rest assured that each test is handled with extreme concern for confidentiality and integrity. As a "front line" person who serves students, she is sure to always greet every student who walks through the door and Marilyn always notices if students or staff are having a bad day or a good day. If there's good news, she shares it and if there's bad news, she helps the person look for a better way to handle the issue. She's quick to help others and conscientious about making sure all her duties are covered when she has to be out of the office. Marilyn is an integral part of the success in Academic Success office.
Marilyn truly goes “above and beyond” and the AS staff appreciates everything she does for them and all of their students. On numerous occasions, she stays later to make sure things are finished and orderly before she leaves to go home for the day. She also does well, looking ahead on her schedule to make sure she has everything lined up for the day. Marilyn has excellent customer service skills when working with both staff and students. She spends extra effort making sure student workers are properly trained and that they know what is expected on their end and her ability to make sure everyone's needs are met are admirable. She gives extra effort to get to know students and staff to ensure that they feel welcome and comfortable at UNK. Her colleagues often comment that it is truly pleasure working with her.
So much goes into managing the Academic Success Computer Lab, including monitoring and upkeep, and the supervision of student workers and students who stop in to use the Computer Lab. Marilyn is very conscientious about making sure that students connect with the right tutors too. On top of those responsibilities, she handles all the necessary paperwork for her office and is careful to be sure that paperwork is prepared correctly according to established guidelines. She has gone above and beyond where teamwork is concerned going that extra mile to help lighten for a fellow coworker. Marilyn keeps a positive attitude and sense of humor during what can be some very hectic, busy times in her office.
Marilyn always seems to have a handle on everything! Her office area is constantly busy with students using the computer lab and she has generously worked over the last two summers when she was originally hired to be off during the months of June and July.
For all of her hard work and her grace in the midst of a hectic office environment, the UNK Staff Senate is pleased to recognize Marilyn Morehouse as the February 2008 UNK Employee of the Month.
